In the province of Ontario, the Ministry of Education allows Christians to be absent from school for certain holy days through the year, and Ash Wednesday is one of these!
Fifteen children and teens, aged four through sixteen, came to church for the day to learn about the ideas of temptation and sin through the lens of the "Star Wars" universe. We talked about how Anakin Skywalker gave into temptation to join the Dark Side, and how Jesus was tempted as well but did not give in and did not sin. We talked about the ways padawans learned to be Jedis, and about how catechumens learn to be Christians.
It was a great day with some wonderful leadership and support from members and staff from the church.
