St. Francis of Assisi was a Christian saint in the thirteenth century, well known for his love of all of God's creatures (he is often pictured preaching to the birds). In honour of his memory, St. Andrew's holds an annual Blessing of the Animals service around his feast day (October 4th) every year.
This year's service gathered eight dogs and one rather nervous cat in the church with their people, for a time of thanksgiving for all that our pets give us, and a prayer that we might be reminded of our duty to care for all of creation, as well.
